| | Superstars !!

What is it with bollywood superstars and their affairs, right from the days of rajesh khanna and amitabh bachan till date, they seem to thrive on the "more the merrier" funda. Amitabh had these so called connections with rekha and parveen bhabhi.

Salman khan, akshay kumar...and now more lately aamir khan, dont they realise that we fans look upto them, we idolise them. Considering his good boy image, this came as a surprise to me.

Brings me to my point, King Khan (SRK) apart from being a good actor (read best ever), is a good person too, loved a girl- pursued her, married her and thats it. No liasons after that. Nice example for others.

| | Another blast in mumbai, THIS is reason to be concerned. Seems like some kind of a trend, the bombs are always placed in public transport vehicles, be it a BEST bus or a taxi, like this time around.

People who do this usually want to put a point across, agreed - but why harm innocent people in the bargain. These are the people with negligible say when it comes to finance or politics, whichever one is being targetted.

Mumbai being the entertainment and commercial center of india-is an obvious target for the anti social elements. But why do these cowards attack soft targets, the common people.

There is an obvious communal angle to all this - cause mulund, ghatkoper, zaveri bazaar are all "gujrati" dominated areas. The blasts occurred just hours after archaeologists told a Lucknow court that a temple existed just below the controversial Babri Masjid monument. What are people trying to prove here?

Is aamchi mumbai safe no longer. Is it not the ideal place to settle down anymore - what with around 6 bomb blasts taking place in the last year or so. After all the good work done by the mumbai police to wipe out most of the dreaded ganglords, they have their hands full once again. I sincerely hope that the worlds second best police force teamed up with enthusiast mumbaikars can fight this menance too and make it the same safe place to stay in. I hope they gather the courage to fight on and overcome all odds. I so badly want to be in MY city and do something about this, rather than just sit here and crib bout it.

| | The internet worm !!

  • Internet worm spreading rapidly

  • Experts anxious over possible Net attack

  • Microsoft Windows update

  • Web attack may hit Microsoft

These are the headlines of all the major newspapers and news channels. Its been happening for a while now. It beats me as to why someone would like to do this - just to be noted, to stand up and be counted - nah not exactly cause no one actually comes up and takes responsibility of the attacks. Just for the pleasure of seeing systems crash and communications be hampered? maybe yes.

Everyone seems to have a problem with microsoft and bill gates - why , they dont have an answer. Probably cause he has done what others can only dream of. Coming to think of it, his products are integral parts of our lives now. Cant imagine using any other OS than windows, edit documents in other word editors, not making spreadsheets in excel, not making presentations in powerpoint. Has he ever forced anyone to use his products ? Has he ever charged high rates ? But still has compelled more than 80% of all PC users to use his products on a daily basis - now that is marketing and business for you.

Some complain that his systems are not perfect - but then who is? Dont planes crash? Dont ships sink ? Dont cars break down, ever seen ppl targetting the likes of boeing,GE or Ford cause some of their products had faults in them.

Ever thought about the day microsoft decides that it is time to shut shop - just like that, stop giving updates and patches?

You can hate 'em,curse 'em,detest 'em but believe me u cannot live without them. Atleast i cannot. So lemme finish typing this post in MS word, on my Windows XP, and post it using MS IE :)

Happy Independence day guys !!

pj of the day - once an elephant is sitting on a tree, munching on a mango. some time later a donkey comes along and tries to climb the same tree, when he reaches half way up the tree, the elephant asks him what is he coming up for, 'i want to eat an apple' replies the donkey. Puzzled, the elephant tells him that it is a mango tree that he is climbing. 'I know that, i have brought the apple along' comes the reply.

| | The world is divided into two groups.
There are those who know, and those who don't know. Those who know are
no problem.

Those who don't know are also in two groups.

One is those who don't know and know they don't know. Well, they can
learn!

But then, there are those who don't know, and don't know they don't
know.
And they become managers!

| | The weekend !!

Its been this way most of the summer, work the entire week and then enjoy on the weekends. This weekend was no different - or was it ??

Most of my close friends were with me this time and we decided to meet up in norfolk, its a small costal town in south virginia. It was reejo's birthday on monday, so all of us decided to take a day off from work on monday, making it a long weekend.

But norfolk was not enough, we booked a small beach house for the entire weekend in a place called Nags Head. A little info, nags head is like a refined version of Goa, its one of the best beaches on the east coast, on the atlantic. The drive from norfolk to nags head was really happening, i was caught by a cop, speeding at 75 on a 55 mph speed limit road, with everyone except me drinking away to glory in the car. We had open beer cans in the car, the car was rented on a friends name etc etc , enough reason for the cop to even put me behind bars, forget giving me only a tic. After managing to put on the most innocent expression i ever have, to convince him that i didnt know bout the speed limit, i convinced him that we havent heard of alcohol in ages - forget consumption. Result - i was spared.*chuckle*..but not before shantanu was given a warning ticket partly due to the way the three cars were moving around.

With That out of the way - we had 3 unbelievable days at nags head, with not many ppl on "our part" of the beach.Water games, ball games, buring ppl in the sand; we have had our share of the beach this summer. There were some unsaid rules - ppl who drink will not be without booze at any time of the day, no one shall sleep before 7 am, vishal would have a bath every hour (with beer not water), if the music is on, everyone will have to be on the dance floor. There were rounds of margarita mixes, watermelon juice with vodka and some 200 cans of beer. We also had a peek at the Wright Brothers Memorial, the place where they had the first flight.

Monday, was Reejo's birthday, so sunday night was cake cutting time,we adhered to the tradition of "thoda khao thoda pheko" (jaane bhi do yaaron style)-pheko on reejos face!! Reejo uncorked the champagne marking his quarter century; we followed that up with a round of firecrackers.

Phew, i could go on and on, Sapna and Shruti have almost covered the entire trip in their posts. The weekend post on wednesday - cause the weekend lasted till the early hours of tuesday morning, reached home around 3 ish, and couldnt get up for work at 6 30.

This probably was our last outdoor this summer, with fall round the corner its time to buckle up to some serious studies and an extensive job search.

| | Festivals!!

With Raksha Bandhan round the corner, i have come a full circle when it comes to missing festivals and events back home. Around this time last year i had come to the US pursuing my dream of making it big in life, studying further and making a mark. (Mark idhar hai - teja main hoon *chuckle*).

This last year has made me realise how used to we are to getting holidays every second day cause of one festival or the other, am sure most of us dont celebrate each and every festival but still look forward to it, just cause we get to stay home and have fun - one way or the other.

Coming to think of it - i really never bothered to find out the reasons behind any festival. I think most of us dont. A festival like HOLI, i dont know till date, why we celebrate it - just liked going out and playing with colors and throwing water balloons at everyone in sight. (everyone = girls :)). Come "Navratri" and it was dandia and garba time, why we used to go out and dance for 9 straight nights i didnt know and neither bothered to find out.

Here all u get are the occasional long weekends, and same thing - no one cares what reason as long as u get one.

On second thoughts- it wasnt such a bad thing, celebrating festivals the traditional way, getting all dressed up for different ones, the sweets, food, enthusiasm... i think i miss all that. With Rakhee round the corner i miss my "dids" more than i ever did before :(, wish i could go back just for a day, spend it with her and come back. I am surely going to miss the "kaju katli", the 'molli' on my hand and the 'tikka' on my forehead, this 12th of august.

On a positive note - this sunday is the first sunday of august, so its friendship day. Now that i have made so many new, unseen friends over the last 2 months - lemme wish all of you a very happy friendship day !!
